Greetings to all those who have stepped into the Guild lands. We mods of the Nook would like to welcome you and hope that you enjoy your stay with us.
A few things you need to know in order to understand our unique society and how the Guild is run:
*Watch what you post, keep it PG-13 or below.
Recent demographics have shown that there are increasing numbers of Guilders below the age of 16. The projected age of newbies average from 13-16, with fewer in the higher ages, 17+. Keeping this in mind, we ask that you refrain from posting content ill-suited to these youngsters. The Guild has a built-in censor for those swear-words, but do keep it in check anyway. This also includes any references to other acts such as sex, nudity or anything surrounding those. Tasteful nudity (with proper warning) is all right in the Art Gallery (please see Etherrawen's sticky-post for more information).
*Keep signatures small.
Guilders love their sigs; they can display anything from their webpages, to favorite links (nothing inapropriate), to LiveJournals. Some choose to put a small picture in there, called a sig pic. All these are fine, if you adhere to these guidelines: no tests or online quizzes should be included; youll be asked to remove them from your sig if you do. No scrolling (marquee) text. No scrollboxes either; it can mess up some Guilders computers. Then there is a matter of size your sig can be small (just a few words, such as your name) or big but theres a limit to how big it can be. About two inches or three is about the maximum for how large your sig can be. If it is too big with too much text and/or images, you will be asked to cut down on the size for bandwith sake.
You can access your sig for changes in the EZBoards Control Center, located on the top of each forum, to the left, under the forums name. Unless you have paid for an EzSupporter account, you must use EzCodes for your signature. Additional help can be asked of either mods or Admin or in the Tech Center for HTML aid. An FAQ on EzCodes can be found at the lefthand side of the text box when you are typing a message; click on the link to be taken there.
*Banning
There have been unfortunate instances in where a member of the Guild has been banned from posting on the Board. (Banned Information) Flaming of any Guild member is not tolerated and will either get you warned or banned from the get-go. Repeat offenses after a warning is issued will also get you banned from the Guild. Please take the Admin and Mods seriously if they tell you that you are getting out of line; you may not think it serious to be banned, but remember, there will be other people out there who think your acts unwise and will comment on them.
*Auto-titles
Outsider (Unregistered) Neoflyte Pie-Magnet : before 50 posts Inciter of Insanity : after 50 posts Loopy Loiteror: after 200 posts Guild Maven: after 500 posts Respected Eldermember: after 1500 posts Calmer of Chaos (for moderators) Flyte Leader (for admins)
Above are the titles that can be found under your posting name here at the guild. These are just an amusing way to get an idea of how long everyones been around. Now you may notice that some members have custom titles under their names. This can be done after one has been around the Guild for quite a while, at the very least one month. So, if you feel the burning need to get a custom title after hanging around for a month check out the Admin Announcements for more information on that.
*This is a Guild, a Message Board, not a AIM Chat Room
Thats right. And no matter how many times its said, there will always be those who just want to type in Wuz ^ ppl?! a/s/l? PLEASE TALK TO ME!...ect....Its most likely the swiftest way to get people annoyed with you. Now, some chat speak is okay, but not on its own.
Which brings me to one line post. Please, dont do it. Put content in your post, make it worth your time to write, and others time to read. Its all about quality vs. quantity. And quality should be the winner. Only in the Art Forums are one line post appropriate. Other Guilders will respect you for putting your thoughts down in a mature, and well written fashion. Which includes good grammar and spelling. Spell check is a wonderful thing, and I would know because I use it very often.
If youre someone that just wants to chat in RL time (example of okay chat speak!) go to a chat. The Guild has a channel on mIRC, and a link can be found in the FAQ or any other chat room; we also have installed a Guild-based chatroom. The same rules apply for the chatroom as do the Board. They can be found HERE. Remember, please try your hardest to not bring AIM-speak to the Guild.
Read the rules, respect them.
*Respect all Guilders
The Guild is a very diverse place; naturally, there are many differences in opinion and beliefs. Please respect the opinions of others at all times, and keep in mind that this is a community-- everyone must be equally free to express their own thoughts. If you strongly disagree with someone, and want to reply in any way less than courteous, please take it to e-mail and work it out in a more private manner. Repeated disrespect may result in banning, which has been mentioned above.
*"What are you ..."-type posts in the GCR
Recent influx of "What are you"-type threads in the Guild Common Room has become a hot issue. Simply stated, we now wish to avoid such threads as they are repetative and they clog the GCR with really nothing more than member spam. It is canon here for quality over quanity. Many members feel that these sorts of threads take away from others around them. If you wish to know about what types of Guilders there are out there, I suggest you check the EZBoard profiles, the Guild Bio Page or any other links Guilders have in their sigs. Please do not post any sort of these "What are you ... " threads; they will be deleted by the Admin and Mods.
*Returning Members ...
If you are a returning member, please post in Lurker Hall. You can ask for pies there, if you wish. If you have a new name, the P&A forum is also the place to post, not the Nook. I know it's exciting to get "welcomed" by members, but this really isn't the place to do it if you are returning. Posts from returning memebers will be moved to the Hall.
